If you own a Viking gate in Fort Worth and the frame has cracked, a weld has failed, or a hinge plate has torn loose, we can fabricate and install the replacement part, usually within one to three business days depending on the piece. Most Viking welding and fabrication work on residential gates in Fort Worth runs between $180 and $600 installed, and we hand you a written price before any metal is cut. The way most owners discover the problem is a gate that suddenly drags, a top rail that sags, or a gate that swings open differently than it did last week.
We’re an independent Fort Worth gate shop, not a Viking factory service center, but Viking is one of the brands our techs carry parts and steel stock for on the truck. Since 2009, we’ve fabricated and welded Viking gate components across Fort Worth, from the neighborhoods around TCU to Saginaw and Benbrook.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking’s residential gate line here in Fort Worth is mostly the VG series and the heavier VX and Viking Titan series for larger driveway openings. The gotcha is that two gates that look identical from the curb can have different wall thicknesses on the frame tubing. Viking switched suppliers on some of the VG-series frame stock about seven years back, and the older runs used 14-gauge tubing on the stiles while the newer ones went to 16-gauge. When we burn a weld on 16-gauge tube, we set the machine differently than we would on the older stock, so identifying the exact panel matters.
If you can find the model plate, it’s usually riveted to the inside of the gate frame near the bottom hinge. No plate, no problem. We measure the tubing profile and wall thickness with a caliper before we quote. For Viking specifically, we prefer OEM or equivalent-gauge domestic steel for load-bearing welds like hinge plates and post brackets. On decorative elements like scrollwork or picket caps, a quality aftermarket piece works fine and knocks the price down. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate scrapes or drags on the latch side. This almost always means a weld at the hinge post or the frame corner has stretched or cracked, and the panel is dropping out of square. The scrape is the symptom; the weld is the cause.
- A diagonal crack line appears at a corner joint. On Viking gates, corner cracks start small and run diagonally across the weld bead itself or at the heat-affected edge of the tube. This is stress cracking from years of wind load and thermal cycling in a Texas climate.
- The gate groans or pops when it moves through the middle of its swing. A pop at the same spot every time usually means a hinge plate is working loose from the frame, not the post. The sound is metal shifting against metal under load.
- Rust blooms at a welded joint. Weld joints on older Viking frames are where moisture sits, and Fort Worth humidity plus oak pollen that holds water will attack those spots first. You’ll see rust staining at the bottom corner welds before anywhere else.
- The top rail sags or bounces when the gate closes. If the top horizontal rail has lost its connection at one end, the gate flexes instead of transferring force cleanly through the frame. That sag will fatigue the other welds until they follow.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Fort Worth Viking gate owners, here’s what the numbers look like:
- Small weld repair (corner crack, hinge plate re-weld): $180 to $280
- Gate frame straightening plus re-weld and reinforcement plate: $300 to $450
- Full hinge assembly fabrication and install (both hinges, welded to frame and post): $350 to $550
- Custom top rail or stile fabrication for a Viking VG or VX panel: $250 to $600 depending on length and gauge
The range depends on material thickness, how much of the original weld has to be ground out, and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges. Every quote is parts and labor together, and the price is written down and agreed to before work starts. That’s not a favor, it’s how we operate. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld fails or the fix isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check yourself: push the gate gently with one hand and watch where it flexes, look for visible cracks at the corners, and take photos of the model plate if you can find it. That diagnosis helps us show up ready. What we’d steer you away from is running a welder on this yourself. Gate frames are under load even when they’re sitting still, and a weld that looks good on top can be cold underneath. If a hinge weld fails while you’re grinding or cutting, the gate can drop, and a falling steel gate is not something you want a kid or a dog in the path of.
We’d rather you call us at (682) 841-5749 and talk it through first. Tell me what the gate is doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs, usually those are two different conversations. A lot of the time we can give you a range over the phone after a few questions.
FAQs
A properly prepared and welded joint on a Viking gate frame in Fort Worth typically lasts 8 to 15 years, which in most cases is longer than the original factory weld. The preparation matters more than the weld: we grind out all the old material, bevel the edges, and clean the steel back to bright metal before burning. That’s the difference between a repair that holds and one that cracks again in two years.
In many cases yes. A cracked corner joint, a stretched hinge plate, or a torn picket can usually be repaired by grinding out the failed weld and re-welding with a reinforcement gusset where the load is concentrated. Replacement is the right call when the tubing wall is rusted thin from the inside, meaning the surrounding steel can’t carry a new weld. We’ll show you which category your gate falls into before we quote. Call (682) 841-5749 if you want a straight answer on your specific gate.
Most weld repairs on a Viking gate take 2 to 4 hours on site. If we need to fabricate a new rail or hinge assembly, we build it in our shop first and install it a day or two later. The on-site install for a fabricated part typically runs 3 to 5 hours including cleanup. You get a written timeframe with your written quote.
Yes. Our Fort Worth techs carry common Viking hinge plates, post brackets, steel tube stock in the gauges Viking uses, and hardware for the VG and VX series. For less common pieces we source from our local metal supplier, usually within a day. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators, which are the boards and arms we see paired with Viking gates most often around Fort Worth.
