We replace and repair DoorKing keypads and intercoms across Fort Worth, and a full keypad swap with programming typically runs $340 to $680 installed, depending on your model and whether we’re replacing just the faceplate or the whole housing. Intercom repairs usually fall between $280 and $520. We stock the common DoorKing parts on our truck, so most visits are one-and-done. The way owners usually find us is they walk out one morning and the keypad is dead, or it beeps but won’t open the gate, or the intercom has gone staticky and the delivery driver can’t call the house.
If the keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move, that can also be the keypad relay, not the gate operator. We check both before quoting anything. That’s the kind of detail that matters on a DoorKing system, because they’re built a bit differently than the other brands we service in Fort Worth.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing has made several keypad and intercom lines over the years, and the parts don’t all swap across them. The ones we see most in Fort Worth are the 1500, 1600, and 1800 series for telephone entry, plus the older 1200 series and the standalone 9000 series keypads. The part number is usually printed on a label inside the keypad housing, but weather and sun can bleach it out. If you can’t read it, we can match by the faceplate design and the wiring.
On DoorKing specifically, the safest route is an OEM part because the wiring harness and mounting points are not universal. There are aftermarket keypads that will technically work, but some of them don’t seat properly in the existing faceplate and leave a gap that Texas rain finds fast. We carry DoorKing OEM replacements and a small set of quality substitutes we’ve tested. One gotcha we see often: the 1500 series and 1800 series look almost identical from the front, but the ribbon cable is different and a 1500 faceplate won’t run an 1800 board. We check the board, not just the front.

Signs Your DoorKing Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- The keypad goes dead intermittently. That’s usually a failing power supply or a corroded connection at the back of the board, not the buttons. Intermittent is a warning sign that gives us a window before total failure.
- Buttons stick or need two or three presses. Dirt, sun damage, or worn silicone under the membrane. Fort Worth summers bake the outer layer until it cracks, and fine dust works its way in.
- The intercom hums, but voices are garbled or one-way. That’s often a failing speaker or a bad handset board. If the visitor can hear you but you can’t hear them, the microphone is usually the culprit.
- The gate opens on its own or won’t close after a call. That can be a stuck relay on the keypad board or a wiring short. We trace it before replacing anything, because the operator is sometimes innocent.
- The display shows lines, black boxes, or nothing at all. Dead segments on an LCD usually mean the board has heat damage or a failed capacitor. We’ve seen displays bake in direct afternoon sun on west-facing gates in Fort Worth.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a DoorKing keypad, a straightforward swap on a 1500 or 1600 series runs $340 to $520. If it’s an 1800 series or a full telephone entry system with intercom, the installed range is $430 to $680. That includes the new part, the programming, and testing the gate cycle. Fort Worth labor rates for gate technicians run $95 to $140 an hour, and most keypad swaps take one to two hours.
The price you get from us is the price you pay. We write it down before we touch anything, and it includes the part, labor, and setup. If we open the housing and find wiring damage or a secondary problem, we stop and explain the new number before doing any extra work. No surprise invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the replacement. If it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check two things: whether the keypad has power at the breaker, and whether the faceplate is cracked or letting in moisture. That’s useful information for us, and it costs you nothing. Past that, I’d slow down. DoorKing keypads run on low voltage, but the gate operator they’re wired to carries line voltage, and the wiring inside the housing is easy to cross. A shorted wire can take out the operator board too, which turns a $400 keypad job into a $1,500 operator job.
We also use low-VOC cleaners and keep the work contained. We lay down drop cloths inside if the intercom runs into the house, and we put on shoe covers before stepping anywhere. If the keypad is outside by the gate, we still clean the area when we’re done. Call us at (682) 841-5749 and tell us what the gate is doing. Tell me what the gate is doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs, usually those are two different conversations.
FAQs
A DoorKing keypad that’s shaded and maintained usually lasts 8 to 12 years in Fort Worth. A west-facing one in full afternoon sun can start failing in 5 to 7 years, especially if the faceplate isn’t kept clean and the housing retains heat. The electronics are hearty, but Texas UV and heat are the real killers. If yours is near the end, call (682) 841-5749 and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or replacing.
Yes, sometimes. If the issue is a corroded connection, a loose ribbon cable, or a single failed component on the board, repair can cost as little as $120 to $180. If the board is heat-damaged or the membrane is cracked, replacement is the honest call. We won’t sell a repair that buys you six months. Call (682) 841-5749 and we’ll diagnose it on site.
A standard DoorKing keypad replacement takes one to two hours on site, including programming and gate cycle testing. Intercom repairs can take slightly longer if we need to trace wiring or replace a handset. We schedule in a way that respects your time, and we can work around nap hours if kids are sleeping. Call (682) 841-5749 to lock in a visit.
We stock the most common DoorKing keypad and intercom parts on our trucks, covering the 1500, 1600, and 1800 series plus the 9000 series keypads. If you have a less common model, we’ll source the part same or next day from our local Fort Worth supplier. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, but DoorKing is its own animal and we treat it that way. Call (682) 841-5749 with your model number and we’ll confirm before we roll.
We’re an independent gate service in Fort Worth, not a DoorKing dealer or affiliate. What that means for you is we speak plainly about what’s worth fixing and what isn’t. We’re part of the Cedarwell family, and we’ve been at this since 2009. Cody Beckman, our owner, learned the mechanical side of this work at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he’s worked residential and commercial gates around Fort Worth for over a decade, including plenty of jobs near the TCU campus. The crew trains on DoorKing systems specifically, and we’re known for finding the actual problem instead of swapping parts until something works.
Every visit includes a written price before work starts, shoe covers and drop cloths where they matter, and a cleanup photo before we leave. That’s the Cedarwell C.A.R.E. routine, and it’s not an upsell. It’s just how we work. Call (682) 841-5749 for a free estimate on your DoorKing keypad or intercom repair. A live person answers, day or night.
