We stock, match, and install DoorKing-compatible access control parts across Fort Worth, with most keypad, card reader, and control board replacements running between $285 and $690 installed. We can usually have a technician at your gate same day or next morning, and the exact price is written down before any work starts. Most owners discover a failing access control part the way you’d expect: the keypad stops reading a certain code, the card reader goes silent on every third swipe, or the gate suddenly opens but won’t close on its own. You’ll probably notice it on a rainy Tuesday when the kids are already late and the remote is inside the house.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing access control installs cover the parts that tell your gate when to open: keypads, card readers, telephone entry systems, loop detectors, and the control boards that talk to all of them. The parts we install most often in Fort Worth are the DoorKing 1812, 1814, and 1816 keypads, the 1830-series telephone entry systems, and the 1603-series card readers. One gotcha we see regularly around the TCU area and older neighborhoods: the 1812 keypad mounts differently than the 1814, and the wiring harness is not interchangeable. If someone hands you a “universal” DoorKing keypad and claims it fits everything, that’s the moment to check the model number.
For OEM versus aftermarket: DoorKing’s own boards and keypads are well made and hold up in Texas heat, but aftermarket keypads from Linear and some quality third-party suppliers often cost 30 to 40 percent less and work fine for a plain single-gate setup. We’ll give you both prices and let you choose. Either way, the part gets matched to your exact model number, not guessed at from a photo.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, but we’re factory-trained on their equipment and we stock common DoorKing boards, keypads, and loop detectors on the truck alongside parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls.

Signs Your DoorKing Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad accepts some codes but not others. This usually means one or two buttons on the membrane have worn through, not a programming problem. A new keypad face or full keypad solves it in about forty minutes.
- The card reader works in the morning, then goes dead in the afternoon heat. North Texas summer temperatures regularly hit 100 degrees and that expansion cracks weak solder joints on reader boards. We see this every June and July across Fort Worth.
- The gate opens on its own at random times. In most DoorKing systems, that’s a failing loop detector or a shorted input on the control board. It’s not a ghost, and it’s not something to ignore with kids and dogs in the yard.
- Telephone entry calls the house but the call drops when you press 9 to open the gate. This is typically the telephone entry board’s relay wearing out. It’s a known DoorKing failure point on systems older than six or seven years.
- The control board shows voltage but nothing moves. That’s usually a burnt trace or failed capacitor from a power surge. We replace the board and add surge protection if your gate doesn’t already have it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what DoorKing access control installs actually run in Fort Worth, parts and labor included:
- Keypad replacement (1812/1814/1816): $285 to $390 installed
- Card reader or proximity reader replacement: $320 to $430 installed

What moves the number: whether we’re doing a straight part swap or also re-running wiring the previous installer left bunched up and corroded. We write the price down before we start, and that number includes the part, the labor, cleanup, and a brief test of every access point. If the new part fails inside the first year, our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers making it right, no argument and no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: check the wire connections at the keypad for looseness, clean the keypad face with a dry cloth, and confirm the breaker for the gate operator is on. What I’d recommend you not do: opening a DoorKing control board and probing it with a multimeter unless you’re comfortable working around live low voltage and know exactly which terminal does what. I’ve seen one well-meaning homeowner bridge the wrong two terminals and fry a perfectly good board. High-tension gate components and energized boards are best left to a trained technician.
If you’re in Fort Worth and your DoorKing system is acting up, call us at (682) 841-5749 and tell us what the gate is doing. Tell me what the gate is doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs – usually those are two different conversations. A live person answers, even if it’s 2 a.m. and the gate just refused to close with the dog already outside.
FAQs
Most DoorKing keypads last five to eight years in the North Texas climate, though the membrane buttons typically go first, especially on gates that face west and take the full afternoon sun. If your keypad is older than about seven years and codes are getting flaky, replacement is usually cheaper than trying to repair the membrane.

Sometimes. A loose wire or corroded terminal we can fix in minutes for under $100. But a failed relay or cracked circuit board is not a practical repair, and we won’t charge you shop time chasing a board repair that might last a month. We’ll tell you the repair price and the replace price, then let you decide.
Call (682) 841-5749 and describe the symptom, we’ll give you an honest answer on the phone.
A simple keypad or card reader swap takes about 40 to 60 minutes. A control board or telephone entry system replacement runs two to three hours, including testing every access point and making sure your remote still works before we leave.
