We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welded steel components for gates across Fort Worth, with most fabrication and installation work running between $285 and $780 depending on the part, the weld complexity, and whether we’re repairing in place or fabricating a replacement in our shop. Most welded component failures get diagnosed and fixed the same day we arrive, though custom fabrication work is measured, quoted, and scheduled. What usually brings an owner to this page is a gate that racks, sags, or binds. The hinge welds crack, the steel frame distorts, or an old mount point tears loose and the whole gate leans into the jamb. Cody Beckman and our crew see this on DoorKing swing and slide setups all over town, especially on the older steel-frame models that have been through ten or fifteen Texas summers.
Latch and Post Gate Repair Fort Worth is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with DoorKing, but we stock parts for DoorKing systems alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, and we fabricate steel components that match DoorKing’s original dimensions exactly.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing’s residential and light-commercial gate operators generally drive one of two weld-heavy assemblies: the fabricated steel gate itself, or the mounting brackets, hinges, and post hardware that carry the operator’s force. The 9000-series swing operators, the 1601 series, and the older 800-series slide systems all depend on welded steel attachment points that get stressed every time the gate opens.
If you’re looking at a failed weld on the gate frame, the original DoorKing gate was likely built by a local fabricator using DoorKing’s operator and control panel. That means there’s no single “OEM weld” part number to order, which is exactly why this work falls to a shop that understands both welding and DoorKing operators. What matters is matching material thickness and geometry. The two identifiers you’ll want to check before calling: the metal thickness on the original frame (usually 11-gauge or 14-gauge steel on residential DoorKing gates) and the operator model number, which is printed on the control board housing or the motor body.
For brackets and hinge weldments, DoorKing does sell replacement hinge kits and mounting hardware, but the weld itself is field work. A factory hinge kit will never account for wear on the post or gate frame. In Fort Worth, where clay soil shifts under posts and gate piers, we regularly replace or reinforce the existing weldment rather than just bolting new hardware onto a compromised mount.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes at the latch end while the hinge side looks fine. This almost always means a hinge weld or frame weld has started to crack, letting the gate rotate slightly out of plane. The crack might be hairline, but the geometry shift at the latch end is measurable.
- A creaking or groaning sound that happens only at a specific point in the travel arc. That’s usually a weld flexing under load. The sound is the crack opening and closing as the gate moves through its range. It will only get louder.
- Rust bleed or a visible dark line running through a welded joint. On Fort Worth steel gates, moisture works into any failed weld and produces a distinctive rust-colored weep line. If you see that, the weld has already separated internally even if the outside still looks intact.
- The gate post leans or the concrete around it shows fresh cracking near the mount bolts. The post base weld or the anchor embed has failed, and the operator’s pull is slowly working the post loose in the soil. This is common on the clay-heavy lots west of downtown near Rivercrest and Monticello.
- The operator runs, the arm or chain moves, but the gate barely shifts. When a drive-mount weld fails, the operator is pushing against a detached point rather than the gate itself. You may hear the motor labor while the gate stays inert.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Our Fort Worth DoorKing welding and fabrication work typically falls into three price bands. A field weld repair, where we grind out the failed joint, re-weld, and reinforce the area, runs $285 to $450. Fabricating a replacement bracket or hinge weldment in the shop and installing it on site runs $400 to $620. Full steel gate frame fabrication, where the old frame is too far gone to rebuild, runs $780 and up depending on gate size and steel gauge. Every price includes the parts, the labor, the weld prep, and the finish work.
Before any work starts, you’ll have a written price in hand. That’s a non-negotiable part of the Cedarwell C.A.R.E. values our technicians work under: Clean up like it’s our own home, Ask before we move or touch anything, Respect the family’s time and quiet hours, Explain the price before the work. No scope creep, no surprise line items on the invoice.
Every weld repair and fabrication job we do is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails or the part doesn’t fit correctly, we make it right. No argument, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. What you can safely do yourself is identify the failure point: look for rust weep lines, check the hinge geometry, note where the gate binds. If you can tell us the gate scrapes on the latch side but the hinge side hasn’t moved, that’s genuinely useful information. What you should not do is grab a flux-core welder and attempt the repair on a loaded gate. Welding a cracked gate hinge while the gate’s full weight rests on the joint is a good way to end up with a gate on the ground or a weld that looks solid but has zero penetration. We have seen homeowners do exactly this near the TCU area, and the result is usually a repair that holds for a month and then fails more completely than the original crack did.
Also worth saying: if the door is on any kind of slope or spring-loaded closer, the stored energy wants to move the gate while you’re working. That’s not a beginner lesson. Call us at (682) 841-5749 and we’ll bring the right welder, the right clamps, and the right sequence for a repair that actually lasts.
FAQs
Most welded DoorKing gate frames in Fort Worth hold up for 8 to 14 years before the first hinge or frame weld fails, though that number drops to 5 to 8 years if the steel was never sealed against Colorado River Valley humidity or the gate is on the north side where water pools. The welds fail before the steel does. A well-kept frame with good coatings can go 20 years before the steel itself needs replacement.
Most cracked welds can be repaired, especially if the crack is caught before the surrounding steel distorts. We grind out the old weld, re-weld with proper penetration, and add a reinforcing plate where the geometry allows. Call us at (682) 841-5749 with a photo of the crack and the gate model, and we’ll give you a straight read on repair versus replace before you spend a dollar.
A field weld repair on a single hinge or bracket usually takes 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how much access we have to the joint and how much of the old weld needs to be ground out. A full bracket fabrication takes a day or two in the shop, plus the install visit. We’ll tell you which it is before we start.
We carry common 11-gauge and 14-gauge steel stock, hinge weldments, and DoorKing mounting hardware on the truck for same-day repairs. For anything more custom, we fabricate in our Fort Worth shop and install it the moment it’s ready. Call (682) 841-5749 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
