Get your free estimateElite Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If your Elite gate is dragging, sagging, or grinding when it moves, the hinges and rollers are almost always the culprit. We stock Elite-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts on our trucks and install them across Fort Worth for a typical range of $220 to $480 per gate, depending on gate weight and how many pivot points need attention. Most Elite hinge and roller replacements are done same-day, and you’ll see the exact written price before we touch a single bolt.
Here’s how it usually starts. You hit the opener and the gate hesitates before it moves. Or it moves, but with a groan like it’s dragging something. Maybe one corner of the gate has dropped a half inch, so the latch no longer lines up and you’re lifting the gate to get it to catch. What you’re actually hearing and seeing is a hinge with worn-out bushings or a roller that’s flattened on one side from years of Texas sun and heat. The gate still works. It’s just working harder every time, and that extra strain is quietly wearing out the operator motor too.
We’re an independent gate repair company in Fort Worth. We’re not affiliated with Elite, but we work on their equipment constantly because it’s everywhere in this city, from the iron estate gates in Montserrat to the aluminum drive gates out by Benbrook Lake. Cody Beckman, our owner, has spent well over a decade diagnosing Elite gates and other brands, and he’ll tell you the same thing every time: most people replace the operator when what they actually need is a hinge and roller job.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite makes two families of gate hardware, and they use different hinge and roller configurations. The SL-series (SL-3000, SL-3000UL, SL-5000) are the slide gate operators, and their rollers carry the entire gate weight on a steel track. The CSW and Mighty Mule-style swing models (CSW-200, CSW-200UL, CSW-400) use barrel hinges or adjustable u-bracket hinges at the post. Different part, different failure pattern.
If you’re not sure which series you have, look at the operator housing for the model tag. Elite stamps a metal plate on the motor cover with the model number, voltage, and serial. On the gate itself, measure the roller diameter if you have a slide gate: Elite’s stock rollers are typically 4 inches across with a sealed bearing, but we regularly see 3-inch aftermarket rollers someone installed to save money that have worn out in two years instead of eight. If your gate has a bracket mounted on the post with a top and bottom bolt through the gate frame, you’re dealing with a hinge replacement, not a roller.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision matters more for Elite than most brands. Genuine Elite hinges are cast and machined to tighter tolerances, but they’re also slower to source, which is why we stock both. For most Fort Worth homes, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a US supplier gets the gate moving correctly and lasts just as long in our climate. We’ll show you both options and let you choose based on price and how fast you want the gate running again.

Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch end. The top hinge bushing has worn egg-shaped, letting the gate drop a quarter to a half inch. You’ll notice the latch alignment drifting or the gate scraping the ground at the far end.
- A grinding or metallic rubbing noise when the gate moves. On slide gates, this is a flattened roller or a seized bearing. On swing gates, it’s the hinge pin grinding against worn bushing material.
- The gate rocks or wobbles when you push on it. Vertical play in a hinge means the bushing is gone and the pin is wearing the hinge barrel itself. Left alone, the barrel cracks and you’re replacing the whole hinge.
- The operator struggles and reverses more often. The motor’s obstructions sensor reads the extra friction as resistance. A hinge or roller replacement usually solves this before the board burns out and the repair bill triples.
- Squealing at the hinge points when the gate moves slowly. Dry metal-on-metal contact. Lubrication masks it for a week, but the wear is already there.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, Elite hinge and roller replacement runs between $220 and $480 installed for most residential gates. At the low end, you’re replacing two standard barrel hinges and realigning the gate. At the high end, a heavy iron gate with four pivot points and bearings that have failed on multiple hinges, plus a new set of rollers for a slide gate, lands around $480. The parts themselves are usually $90 to $180 of the total, and the rest is the labor of taking gate weight off safely, pressing out worn bushings, installing the new parts, and realigning the gate so it closes and latches like it did when it was new.
Every Elite hinge and roller replacement we do in Fort Worth includes the written price up front, before we start. That’s a Cedarwell family standard and it’s non-negotiable. We also back the work with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the gate isn’t moving right within a year of the repair, we come back and make it right. No argument, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can absolutely inspect your own Elite hinges and rollers. Walk the gate line, look for sag, push on the gate at the latch end and watch for play in the hinge joints, and check the rollers for flat spots if you have a slide gate. That inspection tells you what’s wrong.
What we don’t recommend is pulling the gate off its hinges yourself. Even a “light” aluminum driveway gate weighs 150 to 300 pounds, and when the last hinge pin comes out, that weight wants to go somewhere. We’ve seen a wind gust turn a routine hinge swap into a bent gate and a broken fence post. It’s not worth it. Our technicians carry gate jacks, shim blocks, and the right hand tools for this exact job, and we do it without putting your fence, your car, or your hands at risk. If you’re in Fort Worth and want a straight answer on whether your hinges and rollers need replacing, call (682) 841-5749. We’ll put eyes on it, tell you what we’d do, and hand you a written price before any work starts. You don’t have to accept it. You just have to know what you’re looking at.
FAQs
Eight to twelve years is typical for genuine Elite hinges and rollers on a properly installed gate in our climate. The Texas heat and UV exposure hardens the bushing material over time, and gates facing west without any shade tend to wear out faster than south-facing gates. Our experience across Fort Worth, from the TCU area to Saginaw, matches that range consistently.
If the hinge barrel itself is intact and only the bushing is worn, yes, we can press in a new bushing rather than replace the whole hinge, which saves you the cost of new hardware. If the barrel has cracked or the pin has wallowed out the metal, replacement is the only fix that will last. We’ll show you the difference before we quote you.
A standard two-hinge replacement for a residential swing gate takes one to two hours on site. A slide gate with two or three rollers takes about the same. Heavy ornamental gates with four hinges or gates that need post repair first can run three to four hours. You’ll know the time and the price before we begin.
Yes, we carry the standard Elite-compatible hinge sizes, bushings, and roller sets on our service vehicles, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. If your gate takes an uncommon size, we can typically have the part in hand within a day or two. Call (682) 841-5749 and tell us what the gate is doing, and we’ll tell you what it needs. Usually those are two different conversations.
